Lasting Wellness

Everything you need to know before your first visit — from what to bring, to what to expect, to how to get the most from your care.

• What to expect

Your First Visit,
Explained.

We know acupuncture can feel unfamiliar.
Here's exactly what happens — so you arrive calm, comfortable, and ready to heal.

First visit: 60–75 minutes
Follow-up sessions: 45–60 minutes

Before you arrive  ·  10 min

Intake Form

Fill out a short health history online before your visit — so your practitioner arrives prepared. No paperwork at the desk.

02

Consultation

Your practitioner listens first. We review your intake, ask follow-up questions, and look at your full health picture — not just the symptom.

Acupuncture

Hair-thin needles, targeted points. Most patients feel warmth and deep calm. Many fall asleep. You rest while the treatment works.

Your Care Plan

A clear, honest roadmap — how many sessions, how often, and what to expect. No mystery. No pressure to commit on the spot.

•Before you arrive

How to Prepare

A few simple steps before your visit help us deliver the best possible care from the very first session.

  • Eat a light meal 1–2 hours before your appointment. Avoid coming on a completely empty stomach.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing — ideally pieces that allow access to your lower legs, forearms, and abdomen.
  • Bring a list of your current medications and any recent lab work or imaging results.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early to complete your intake paperwork (or fill it out online in advance).
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 2 hours before your session.
  • Plan for some rest after your session. Many patients feel deeply relaxed and prefer a quiet evening afterward.

Intake Forms

To save time on your first visit, we encourage you to download and complete your new patient intake forms in advance.

Forms cover your health history, current concerns, medications, and consent. Bringing them completed means we spend more time on you, not paperwork.

•Fees & Coverage

Insurance & Payment

We believe healing should be accessible. Here's an honest breakdown of how payment and coverage works at our practice.

Insurance

We accept most major PPO plans. Coverage for acupuncture varies by plan — we recommend calling your provider to verify benefits before your first visit. We'll provide you with the necessary billing codes.

FSA / HSA

Acupuncture is an eligible expense under most Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts. We accept FSA and HSA cards directly at the time of service.

Self-Pay

Prefer to pay out-of-pocket? We offer transparent, flat-rate pricing with no surprise fees. Package options are available for patients committing to a care plan.

Not sure about your coverage? Call us before booking — our front desk can help you understand your benefits and estimated out-of-pocket costs before you commit to anything.

•Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture needles are about 25x thinner than a standard hypodermic needle. Most patients feel little to no sensation upon insertion. You may notice a mild heaviness, warmth, or tingling at the needle site — this is normal and often a sign the treatment is working.
It depends on your condition, its severity, and how long you've had it. Acute issues often respond in 3–6 sessions. Chronic or complex conditions may benefit from 8–12 sessions. We'll give you a realistic expectation after your first visit — never a vague open-ended plan.
Loose, comfortable clothing works best. Points are commonly located on the lower legs, forearms, and torso, so clothes that can roll up easily are ideal. Shorts and a t-shirt are perfectly appropriate.
Yes. When performed by a licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is extremely safe. All needles are single-use, sterile, and disposed of immediately after treatment. Side effects are rare and typically limited to mild soreness or light bruising at needle sites.
Yes — acupuncture is commonly used during pregnancy to address nausea, back pain, fatigue, and to support preparation for labour. Certain points are avoided during pregnancy, which is why it's essential to work with a licensed practitioner trained in prenatal care.
We are an appointment-based practice to ensure every patient receives unhurried, focused care. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Same-day appointments are occasionally available — call us in the morning to check availability.
We ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand life happens — please just give us a call or send a message as soon as you know.
